Located in a horseshoe bend of the Little Arkansas River, South Riverside Park feels like nature's perfect hideaway. Water surrounds the park on three sides, making it a refreshing escape within the larger Riverside Park system. The open lawns invite you to spread out a blanket, while the thoughtful landscaping and mature trees create perfect pockets of shade for those hot Kansas days.

What really sets this park apart is its incredible tree canopy. We're particularly fond of the fascinating section where trees grow with unusually large, low-hanging branches that droop toward the ground - it's like walking through a natural cathedral of greenery!

Recreation for Everyone

If you're looking to get active, head to the northwest section of the park where most recreational facilities are conveniently clustered. The park connects to the Arkansas River Bicycle Path and Downtown Bikeway, making it a good starting point for joggers, walkers, and cyclists exploring the city.

The Ralph Wulz Riverside Tennis Center is a local favorite, with courts for both tennis and handball enthusiasts. Beyond just courts, you'll come across a clubhouse with restrooms and indoor training spaces. What's great is that the tennis lessons and competitive leagues here won't break the bank - they're notably more affordable than what you'd pay at private clubs.

Pickleball has found a happy home here too, with dedicated courts that local players flock to regularly. If you're planning a small gathering, the clubhouse near these courts has about ten picnic tables available for use.

River Adventures

The park's riverside location creates perfect opportunities for getting out on the water. A rowing center provides kayak rentals, and several well-placed docks make accessing the river a breeze.

There's something magical about paddling along with scenic water views on one side and those magnificent shade trees on the other. The river here is spacious enough that you won't feel crowded, even on busy days.
