A Walk Through Time

Gratz Park takes its name from Benjamin Gratz, a key early Lexington businessman who made his mark in hemp manufacturing. What's particularly interesting is that this peaceful touch of greenery in downtown Lexington actually stands on land that was once home to the Transylvania Seminary - the very first university west of the Allegheny Mountains. The school packed up and moved after a fire swept through in 1829, but the historical significance remains.
