Shillito Park

Park Overview

Sprawling across 176 acres, Shillito Park offers a breath of fresh air for Lexington locals seeking both action and relaxation. This spacious green space offers a mix of sports facilities, recreational areas, and peaceful spots, making it suitable whether you're watching kids, pursuing fitness goals, or just looking for a moment of calm.

The layout makes navigating the park easy, and there's plenty of parking throughout the grounds - helpful when you're carrying sports equipment or picnic supplies!

Inclusive Playground

The playground is designed to be for everyone. Fully ADA-compliant with rubber surfacing, this play space was designed with accessibility at its heart.

Kids of different ages have their own dedicated zones - one for the little ones (ages 2-5) and another for the bigger adventurers (ages 5-12). Some standout features include the sweet parent-child swings for bonding time, adaptive swings with harnesses that ensure children with disabilities can join the fun, and climbing structures that spark imagination and exploration.

The musical instruments scattered throughout add a nice touch - kids often enjoy creating impromptu concerts during visits.

Trails and Natural Areas

Looking to get those steps in? The 2.3-mile paved loop trail meanders through the park's greenery with a mostly flat path that's perfect whether you're power walking or enjoying a leisurely stroll. The mix of sunny stretches and shaded sections makes it pleasant even on warmer days, however you should know that parts of the trail do run alongside roads.

Dog parents, your furry friends will love the spacious paths - just remember to keep them leashed and use the provided waste stations.

Sports Facilities

Shillito Park offers many options for sports enthusiasts. You'll discover well-maintained baseball fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, and football/soccer fields that accommodate both casual players and organized teams.

The 18-hole disc golf course has become a local favorite with its clear signage and recently upgraded baskets. If you're flinging your first disc or working on your technique, the course offers a good challenge without being overwhelming.

Rounding out the athletic offerings are pickleball courts and volleyball courts - providing a variety of sporting options.

During summer months, the swimming pool provides a refreshing escape from Kentucky heat. And soon, the new Senior and Therapeutic Recreation Center currently under construction will offer specialized facilities for seniors and those with therapeutic needs.
