Historic Design

Established in 1907, Shelby Park was designed by the renowned Olmsted Firm, known for their signature park designs. The 17-acre green space was named after Isaac Shelby, Kentucky's first governor.

Shelby Park is the only park in Louisville that was planned in conjunction with a Carnegie Library. This library, now repurposed into a community center, showcases Beaux-Art architectural style and symbolizes the park's historical focus on both recreational and educational enrichment.
