About Antioch Park
Recreation Facilities
Located in Baton Rouge, Antioch Park offers a solid mix of activities that appeal to pretty much everyone. It's run by BREC (that's the Recreation and Park Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge).
If you're into sports, you've got options here. Shoot some hoops at the indoor and outdoor basketball courts, kick a ball around the soccer field, or grab your racket for a match at the unlighted tennis courts. There are also pickleball courts both indoor and outdoor - though heads up, the indoor space only has three courts, so you might need to wait your turn during busy times.
There's also a baseball field and some multipurpose fields (both with and without lights) that work great for everything from casual frisbee to organized team practices.
Natural Features & Amenities
A highlight of the park is its sprawling walking trail. It winds through stands of mature trees, creating a peaceful escape from the everyday hustle. It's the kind of place where you can clear your head while getting your steps in.
The park's mature trees cast welcome shadows across the grounds, especially appreciated during those scorching Louisiana summer days. Keep your eyes peeled for the local wildlife - rabbits darting between bushes, squirrels chattering overhead, and the occasional possum or raccoon. Bird enthusiasts will appreciate the variety of feathered visitors, particularly the swallows that dance through the air during evening hours.
A charming little creek complete with a bridge and tiny waterfall adds that special something to the landscape. If you time it right in spring, you might spot tadpoles wiggling around in the water - a hit with curious kids.

Family Areas
For families with little ones, the playground offers the classics - swings and climbing structures that will keep children entertained. It's not the biggest playground around, but it does the job for younger kids needing to burn off some energy.
Picnic areas are scattered across the park, and there's a pavilion that works well for small get-togethers. Just don't plan your massive family reunion here - the space is better suited for intimate gatherings rather than big parties.
Community Center
At the heart of Antioch Park sits a Recreation Center that acts as the community hub. It's typically open weekday evenings, although the hours can be a bit unpredictable, so you might want to call ahead.
Inside, you'll find those basketball courts mentioned earlier, plus the increasingly popular pickleball courts that have local residents coming back again and again.
Practical note: Restrooms are only available inside the Recreation Center building (not scattered within the park), and there's Wi-Fi if you need to stay connected. As for hydration, the water situation is a bit limited - the outdoor fountain isn't working at the moment, so you might want to bring your own bottle.
No matter if you're looking to work up a sweat, take a contemplative stroll, or simply watch squirrels chase each other while your kids play, Antioch Park has a comfortable neighborhood vibe.
