A Fresh Start: The Park's Transformation

BREC Jefferson Highway Park got a major facelift as part of the Imagine Your Parks strategic plan, wrapping up construction in late 2016. This 5.0-acre space now features both outdoor activities and an indoor recreation center that's popular with locals.

Get Your Game On

What used to be two asphalt tennis courts have found new life as sand volleyball courts, complete with foot-washing stations (because nobody likes sandy shoes) and bleachers for friends to cheer you on. These volleyball courts are frequently used by visitors.

If volleyball isn't your thing, no worries - you can shoot some hoops on the basketball courts, practice your serve on the tennis courts, or get your steps in on the walking track.

Kid-Friendly Zone

Little ones have their own space too with a playground area that's meant for burning off energy. Just keep in mind that the playground follows the park's operating hours (4-8PM Monday through Friday).

The Indoor Experience

The Recreation Center didn't just get a touch-up - it got a complete makeover. Now featuring new program spaces and a large event space, it's become the go-to spot for everything from weddings and family reunions to conferences and birthday parties.

The event space is surprisingly roomy - it can comfortably fit groups of up to 120 people. Plus, the indoor facility is clean, well-maintained, and thankfully air-conditioned (a must for those Louisiana summers).

Outdoor Gatherings Made Easy

The park includes a dedicated outdoor event and play space with a reception plaza, lighting, landscaping, and plenty of seating areas. It's designed to be versatile enough for all sorts of community get-togethers.

The Little Things That Matter

For those looking to take it easy, the park offers Wi-Fi access and open areas where you can just relax and enjoy the day.

BREC staff are on-site during operating hours, so you can easily ask about renting facilities or learn more about what the park has to offer.

As of 2023, Jefferson Highway Park provides Baton Rouge residents with a place to play, unwind, and connect.
