About the Location
A Brief History & Who Runs the Show
Nestled along Fisher Road in Lafayette, Louisiana, Beaver Park spreads across a generous 70 acres of land. Back in April 1959, the Beaver Club developed this green space on land they leased from the Playground and Park Commission.
Today, the park operates through a three-way partnership: the Beaver Club of Lafayette provides guidance, the City of Lafayette handles the everyday cleanup and maintenance, and the Bayou Vermilion District takes care of the boat launch and the floating docks along the water's edge.
What You Can Do Here
Beaver Park offers a mix of sports facilities and natural spaces. Whether you're looking to break a sweat or simply unwind in nature, there's something for most visitors.
The park shares a border with the Vermilion River, opening up possibilities for water adventures. There's a boat launch if you're itching to get out on the water - just keep an eye out for debris, as conditions can change day to day.
Tennis, Anyone?
The park's tennis center features both clay and hard courts, all illuminated for evening matches when the Louisiana heat gives way to cooler air.
There's even a hitting wall for solo practice sessions or warming up before a match. The variety of court surfaces is a real plus, however you might occasionally find the clay courts needing some TLC.
For Families and Relaxation
If you're bringing kids, Beaver Park has playground equipment for their enjoyment. The large fishing pond is ideal for teaching little ones how to cast a line or enjoying some peaceful angling yourself.
You'll also find picnic areas that are clean and well-kept - ideal for family gatherings or a simple outdoor lunch. And yes, restroom facilities are available across the park, so you can plan for a full day of outdoor enjoyment.
The Vibe
What we appreciate about Beaver Park is its lack of crowds. Unlike Lafayette's more bustling spots like Moncus or Girard Park, this place offers a tranquil escape for those seeking a bit of quiet.
The park has a grassroots feel to it, with local volunteers often pitching in to help maintain the grounds and nurture native plants. Many Lafayette families have been visiting for generations.
Staying Safe
Keep in mind that the park sits near a highway, so if you're bringing children, keep them within sight. As with most public parks, it's best to visit during daylight hours or with friends, since some areas have limited lighting after sunset.
