About the Location
Honoring Heroes
Tucked along the Clyde Fant Parkway near the Red River, Veterans Memorial Park in Shreveport offers a peaceful retreat from the city bustle. The heart of the park is its memorial crowned with a statue of an eagle - a symbol of freedom and honor that overlooks the grounds below.
The memorial area includes a thoughtfully designed patio space with six concrete benches where you can sit and reflect. There's something moving about this space - its dignified design creates a respectful atmosphere to remember those who served our country.
Park Features
The park's greenery is well-kept, creating a refreshing backdrop for your visit. One of our favorite features is the long footbridge that spans a wet weather creek. It adds a touch of charm to your walk through the park.
If you're into morning workouts, the jogging path here is clean and scenic - nice for starting your day with some exercise. The paved walkways throughout make the park accessible to everyone, including those using wheelchairs or with mobility concerns.
Getting Active
Disc golf enthusiasts, take note! Right next to the memorial area, you'll find a challenging 27-hole disc golf course complete with concrete and grass tees. The course offers various pin placements for each hole, keeping things interesting no matter how often you play. And don't worry about parking - there's plenty of space in the lot shared with the memorial area.
For more relaxed outings, several picnic tables are scattered across the park, many nestled under shady trees. These spots are ideal for unwinding with a packed lunch or gathering with friends on a pleasant afternoon.
What to Expect
The quiet, somewhat secluded nature of Veterans Memorial Park offers a peaceful experience. It's a wonderful place to walk your dog, enjoy some quality time with loved ones, or simply find a moment of solitude.
It's worth noting that the park doesn't have restrooms or drinking water facilities, so you might want to plan accordingly before your visit. The park's natural beauty and well-maintained grounds are the main attractions here.
