About George E. Keith Park
A Shoe Magnate's Homestead
This 1.5-acre park between Main and Montello Streets, in Brockton's historic Campello neighborhood, stands where the family homestead of George Eldon Keith (1850 - 1920) once stood. Keith was a prominent shoe manufacturer and philanthropist who built one of the most successful shoe companies in the world, known for its "Walkover" brand. He was also deeply involved in civic life, serving on Brockton's first board of aldermen and as a park commissioner, among other roles.
The city acquired the land in 1952, and the Brockton Parks and Recreation Department has managed it ever since.
Terraces and a Promenade
The park's layout dates to the 1950s: a quiet, passive green space with lawns laid out across gently sloping terraces. A tree-lined, bluestone-paved promenade leads to a monument honoring George E. Keith, which makes for a pleasant, contemplative walk.
