History and Legacy
This beloved green space was gifted to the City of Lowell in 1910 by Freeman B. Shedd, a local philanthropist. His donation came with the stipulation that the land would forever remain a recreational space for the community.
Development funding was further supported by Shedd's estate after his family's passing. The Shedd Park Field House, now known as the John D. Lord Pavilion, was constructed in 1927 and remains a notable structure within the park.
