About the Location
A Peaceful Nearby Retreat
Tucked away at the corner of Stone School Road and Baylis Drive in Ann Arbor, Brookside Park is one of those sweet little neighborhood retreats that feels like a secret shared among locals. This modest green space south of Eisenhower Parkway offers just the right balance of open fields and shady spots beneath a canopy of diverse trees.
The park joined Ann Arbor's collection of green spaces relatively recently, becoming official city property in 2005 after being acquired from Pittsfield Charter Township. A year later, the play area and characteristic split rail fence were added, giving the park the charming character it has today.
Fun for All Ages
Despite its compact size, Brookside doesn't skimp on recreational options. Kids seem to gravitate toward the swings and the small climber, while the little ones especially love the spring riding toy shaped like an Orca (because who wouldn't want to ride a whale in the middle of Michigan?).
If you're feeling active, grab some friends for a casual game at the volleyball net with its grassy court, great for recreational play without the intensity of competitive matches. Fitness enthusiasts can take advantage of the pull-up bars for a quick outdoor workout session.
Planning a small gathering? The picnic table provides an ideal spot to enjoy lunch outdoors or host a modest community get-together under the open sky.
In 2021, the park gained some extra love when local children and volunteers conducted a tree inventory and vegetation mapping project, showing just how much this green space means to the surrounding community.
Interestingly, despite its name, you won't find an actual brook within the park boundaries. However, Mallett's Creek flows near the southeast corner of the neighborhood, adding a touch of natural water element to the general area.
Getting There
Reaching Brookside Park is straightforward whether you're walking or cycling - Stone School Road features both bike lanes and sidewalks, while Eisenhower Parkway offers sidewalks for pedestrians. If you're driving, you'll find some street parking available along Baylis Drive. For those using public transportation, bus stops are conveniently located near the park, making it accessible for everyone in the community.
