About the Location

A Hilltop Haven in Ann Arbor

Perched atop a glacial hill in Ann Arbor, Hunt Park spans 7 acres of neighborhood greenery that locals have cherished for generations. This neighborhood park offers panoramic views of the downtown skyline that make for a nice backdrop to your visit. Nestled northwest of where Summit Street meets Main Street, the park is hugged by Sunset, Daniel, and Spring Streets.

The elevated position provides nice city views and creates a peaceful retreat that feels somewhat removed from urban bustle despite being right in the neighborhood.

Play Areas for the Little Ones

The playground at Hunt Park is suitable for kids between 5-10 years old. It's got all the classics: slides (four of them!), twisty monkey bars, and swings (two baby swings and two for bigger kids). There's even a sandbox stocked with toys for creative play.

What parents will appreciate is the wooden mulch surrounding the playground and the generous tree cover providing natural shade during those sweltering summer days.

Sports and Recreation Spaces

Athletic types haven't been forgotten. You'll discover a well-maintained basketball court, a tennis court complete with a backboard for solo practice, and a modest softball diamond. The spacious open field does double duty hosting impromptu soccer and football games during the year when community events roll around.

Seasonal Magic

When winter blankets Ann Arbor, Hunt Park transforms into a snowy playground. The hills that make for nice views in summer become excellent sledding spots that have been drawing families for decades - some locals have been zooming down these slopes for over 25 years! If you're more into horizontal winter sports, informal cross-country skiing paths materialize after fresh snowfalls.

In the warmer months, the south side of the park hosts 22 half plots of community gardens managed by Project Grow - a testament to the neighborhood's commitment to sustainability and growing together.

Comfort and Convenience

For hanging out beyond play time, the park offers a small but functional shelter equipped with picnic tables and a grill. Clean restrooms and a drinking fountain take care of basic needs, while benches scattered throughout provide spots to rest and soak in the atmosphere. You'll find the facilities connected by an accessible path linking the playground and restrooms.

The shelter may be compact, but it's excellent for intimate gatherings and has served many community events and fundraisers over the years. Note that you won't find bike racks or formal walking trails here - it's more of a freestyle kind of place.

Getting There

Finding parking is a breeze with ample street spaces along Daniel, Sunset, and Spring Streets. If you're taking public transport, bus stops on Miller Avenue are just a 10-minute stroll away.

Hunt Park has been enjoyed by generations of Ann Arbor families and provides green space for the community throughout all four seasons.
