About the Location
Park Features
Tucked away on Ann Arbor's south side, The Ponds Park is a cozy 2.23-acre gem near the Packard and Stone School intersection. This charming neighborhood park offers two distinct experiences: a developed area for play and relaxation, and a natural area for those seeking a quiet escape from city life.
The developed section features a compact but well-equipped playground where kids can let their imaginations run wild. You'll discover an accessible swing (great for inclusive play!), a jungle gym for climbing adventures, slides for the thrill-seekers, and a sand pit where little ones can dig and create. Surrounding the playground, garden spaces burst with shade trees and beautiful three-season perennials - daffodils, irises, daisies, and fountain grasses that add splashes of color all year long.
Need a place for a casual picnic or just to unwind? The park offers a nicely maintained open field great for tossing a frisbee or simply lounging on a blanket. Benches, picnic tables, and a grill make this spot ideal for outdoor meals or afternoon reading sessions.
Natural Area
When you're in the mood for something more secluded, head to the northern section of the park. Here, trails weave through a natural area where tall cottonwoods and other mature trees create a peaceful canopy overhead. It's a wonderful place for a contemplative stroll or a moment of quiet reflection.
Despite the park's name, it's worth noting that the actual ponds are part of the neighboring apartment complex and aren't open to the public - a small disappointment, perhaps, but the park offers plenty of other natural beauty to enjoy.
Access Information
Getting to The Ponds Park is a breeze. The main entrance is on Emerald Avenue, with street parking readily available nearby. Sidewalks lead directly to the park, making it easily accessible whether you're walking or biking over.
If you're approaching from the north, there's a convenient trail entrance from Victoria Avenue that brings you directly into the natural area.
The park welcomes four-legged friends too - it's dog-friendly, but your pup needs to stay on leash at all times. Open daily from 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., The Ponds Park offers a little piece of tranquility within the city, well-suited for morning strolls or evening unwinding after a busy day.
