Natural Oasis in the City

Argo Nature Area spans 22 acres along the east side of the Huron River in Ann Arbor - one of those places where you can escape the urban hustle without actually leaving town. It's a little breath of fresh air right in the city's backyard.

The park doesn't stand alone but connects seamlessly with other nearby green spaces, creating a web of trails and natural areas to explore. If you're lucky enough to visit in fall, the trees put on a spectacular color show that reflects in the river waters, creating postcard-worthy scenes at every turn.

Splash, Paddle, Float

At the heart of Argo's water activities is the Argo Canoe Livery, where staff will provide you with canoes, kayaks, rafts, or tubes. They're helpful folks who can get you set up for your time on the water.

A popular feature here is the Argo Cascades - a man-made feature with nine drop-pools creating a 1,500-foot bypass channel. It's similar to a lazy river ride, but with a bit more excitement thrown in. On warm days, you'll find people of all ages swimming and floating in these waters.

If you're new to paddling, Argo Pond offers a gentle two-mile stretch with calm currents - ideal for finding your balance without fighting the water. There's also a fishing dock where you can try your luck at catching dinner (or just enjoy the meditative quality of casting a line).

Paths to Wander

The trails here wind through a delightful mix of woodlands and marshes, offering beautiful views of the water and chances to spot local wildlife. You can hike or bike these paths, which conveniently connect to Bandemer Park and the Bluffs Nature Area if you're feeling particularly adventurous.

Just a heads-up - some trail sections can get a bit rocky, so watch your step, especially if you're out for a run. Nothing ruins a good nature day like a twisted ankle!

Far From Just Pretty Views

Beyond its natural charm, Argo comes equipped with practical amenities - picnic shelters with grills, clean restrooms that include changing facilities, and a public boat launch. The picnic areas can get busy during peak times, but they're lovely spots to relax after working up an appetite on the water or trails.
