About the Location

A Neighborhood Haven

Tucked away at the intersection of Virginia Avenue and Fair Street, just west of downtown Ann Arbor, sits Virginia Park - a cozy 4.97-acre retreat that locals have come to treasure. This little green location provides a nice mix of play space and natural beauty.

One of the first things you'll notice are the magnificent mature trees providing generous shade within the park, especially that impressive row of tall sycamores lining Virginia Avenue. If you're a fan of autumn colors, the leaves here transform into lovely shades of reds, oranges, and golds.

Play and Recreation

Whether you're looking to get active or just let the kids burn off some energy, Virginia Park offers several options. There's a softball field for weekend games, a soccer goal for impromptu matches, and a basketball court that sees plenty of action on nice days.

The playground is easily accessible via asphalt paths and features a charming concrete turtle sculpture that's become something of a local landmark. Kids love climbing on it, and honestly, it's tempting for adults too!

When it's time to refuel or just hang out, you'll find picnic tables and benches scattered throughout the grounds. There's also a drinking fountain available - always a welcome sight after chasing kids or pets around.

A Touch of Fame

Here's a fun bit of trivia: Virginia Park had its brush with Hollywood when scenes from the movie "Flipped" were filmed here. True fans might recognize the park from the film's cover image. You'll even spot a small ladder next to one of the trees where visitors like to climb up and recreate photos from the movie - a sweet, unofficial tradition.

The park has also naturally evolved into something of a community dog park, with many neighbors bringing their four-legged friends to socialize and play in the open spaces.

Getting There

You can find street parking along Virginia Avenue and surrounding neighborhood streets. There's also a small lot at the end of Siller Terrace with limited spaces, including one handicapped spot. Just be mindful not to use spaces reserved for nearby apartment residents.

If you prefer not to drive, the park is easily reached on foot or by bike via Liberty Street, which has dedicated bike lanes and sidewalks. Coming by bus? No problem - there's a stop on Liberty Street just a few hundred feet away. The one thing missing is bike racks, so you might need to get creative with securing your wheels.

Good to Know

The standard City of Ann Arbor park rules apply here. With its tranquil setting and variety of amenities, Virginia Park offers a peaceful escape for a quick afternoon outing or a full day of neighborhood fun.
