Found in Detroit's Lafayette Park neighborhood, Elmwood Central Park spans a generous 15.5 acres of urban greenery. The park's centerpiece is a half-mile walking loop - good for a morning jog or a leisurely evening stroll.

The park's rolling green spaces offer plenty of room to spread out a blanket, toss a frisbee, or simply find a quiet spot to read. Several pathways crisscross through the grounds, connecting to nearby residential areas.

These walkways feature distinctive architectural concrete patterns, and if you need a moment to catch your breath, look for the two areas with sculptural block elements that make for perfect resting spots.

Natural Surroundings

Tree lovers will appreciate the mature shade trees that dot the landscape, offering cool relief on hot summer days. Keep your eyes peeled for the park's charming wildlife residents, including black squirrels darting between trees and Canadian geese that often make themselves at home here. Just watch your step around the geese droppings, and be mindful of some cracked concrete sections along certain paths.

Family Fun & Future Improvements

If you're bringing little ones along, the park currently includes a small playground. Elmwood Central is undergoing revitalization efforts with several planned improvements.

The upcoming improvements sound promising: refreshed plaza areas, picnic spots for your outdoor meals, a new and improved playground, outdoor fitness equipment for those who prefer exercising in the fresh air, a dedicated dog park for your four-legged friends, and a native meadow area to enhance the park's natural beauty. These additions will expand the range of activities available in the park.
