About the Location
A Green Oasis in Detroit
Tucked away at the intersection of East Forest and Iroquois Avenues lies Pingree Park, an 18-acre piece of greenery that is the heart of its namesake neighborhood. Named after Hazen Pingree, a former Detroit mayor, this park has become something of a backyard for the surrounding historic area, with its charming early 20th-century homes.
More than just trees and grass, Pingree Park functions as the neighborhood's living room - a place where the community comes together, kids play, and neighbors connect.
From Neglected to Renewed
2017 marked a turning point for this Detroit green space when Project EverGreen and partners rolled up their sleeves for a major facelift. The transformation wasn't just cosmetic - they planted trees, revitalized tired grass areas, and gave the playgrounds a much-needed refresh.
Beyond making things prettier, the team prioritized safety improvements, especially in the sports fields where neighborhood kids play. Their mission? To breathe new life into this community hub while adding some environmental perks to the urban landscape.
What's New and Notable
The park's evolution continued in 2018 with a second wave of improvements that added winding walking paths, a natural grass amphitheater, and expanded the green canopy along East Forest Avenue.
Today, you'll come across Pingree Park offering a little something for everyone in the neighborhood. The thoughtful design encourages both active recreation and peaceful relaxation, all wrapped in a refreshing natural setting.
This revitalized green space provides an important breathing space in Detroit's urban fabric that locals continue to cherish and enjoy.
