About the Location

Riverfront Transformation

Robert C. Valade Park, located along Detroit's East Riverfront, spans 3.2 acres and is one of the newest additions to the city's vibrant waterfront. It represents a transformation of a formerly industrial site that once housed a cement factory and buoy storage yard into a dynamic public space for recreation and community activities.

The park is strategically positioned to connect other riverfront attractions, such as Stroh River Place and the Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre, enhancing the accessibility of Detroit's RiverWalk.

Amenities and Features

The park features a unique combination of natural and urban elements, including an expansive sandy beach complete with chairs and umbrellas, providing visitors with a relaxing setting by the Detroit River. For families, the park offers a colorful children's playscape and a musical garden with interactive instruments.

Additionally, it boasts a community barbecue pavilion, allowing groups to gather and enjoy outdoor grilling.

Distinctive Attractions

A focal point of the park is The Shed, a 3,600-square-foot structure used for food services, events, and programming. The park is home to Detroit's only floating bar, "Bob's Barge", which adds a distinctive element to the summer experience.

Throughout the year, Valade Park hosts seasonal activities, such as oversized outdoor fireplaces, hot drink stations, marshmallow roasting, synthetic ice curling, and free sled rentals during winter.

Community Legacy

Robert C. Valade Park reflects the city's commitment to creating inclusive, family-oriented spaces while celebrating its riverfront heritage. Its transformation was made possible by contributions from the Molly and Mark Valade Family Fund and other community-focused organizations.
