About Marshall Terrace Park in Minneapolis
Marshall Terrace Park is a 6.55-acre neighborhood park in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Originally known as Northeast Riverside Park upon its acquisition in 1914, it was officially named Marshall Terrace Park in 1915 after Marshall Street, which passes by the park.
The park offers a variety of recreational facilities for visitors. It features a playground area for children, which was renovated in 2013 to incorporate nature and river themes. The new playground includes elements such as a log balance beam, log crawl tunnel, mushroom stepping pods, and a tree trunk climber.
One of the park's notable features is its proximity to the Mississippi River. The park provides river overlooks and stairs leading down to the shore, allowing visitors to enjoy views of the water. In spring, the park becomes a prime spot for observing a heron rookery on a nearby island in the Mississippi River, where hundreds of herons, cormorants, and egrets nest.
Marshall Terrace Park also caters to sports enthusiasts with its baseball and softball fields, basketball court, and sand volleyball court. During summer months, visitors can cool off in the park's wading pool.
The park is open from 6 am to midnight in developed areas and 6 am to 10 pm in undeveloped areas. It serves as a valuable green space in the Marshall Terrace neighborhood, providing residents with opportunities for recreation, relaxation, and connection with nature.
