About Peavey Field in Minneapolis
Peavey Field Park is a vibrant recreational space situated just south of downtown Minneapolis in the Ventura Village neighborhood. Spanning over 7.08 acres, the park offers a mix of family-friendly amenities and modern recreational facilities. Originally established in 1927 with land donated by the family of Frank H. Peavey, the park serves as a community hub, enriched by historical significance and recent upgrades.
The park underwent significant renovations between 2017 and 2019 as part of the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board’s 20-Year Neighborhood Park Plan. These improvements included the addition of a central walking promenade, new picnic pavilions, and enhanced play areas with resilient surfacing. Sports enthusiasts can take advantage of three full-size, lighted basketball courts and a large multi-use field designed for various activities. The park also features a wading pool, open during warmer months and conveniently adjacent to Hope Academy, which influences its seasonal availability.
Peavey Field Park provides a well-rounded experience with walking paths, a playground, and a tot lot, making it ideal for families with young children. Public art installations and a variety of seating areas contribute to a welcoming and visually engaging environment. Additionally, the park's recreation center offers indoor facilities like a kitchenette, gymnasium, and multipurpose rooms, furthering its appeal as a year-round destination for residents and visitors.
