Cathedral Hill Park

A Glimpse into History

Tucked into the heart of Saint Paul's Cathedral Hill neighborhood, this small urban park might not look like much at first glance, but it plays an important role. Snagged by the city back in 1979, Cathedral Hill Park essentially is the welcome mat for the magnificent Cathedral of Saint Paul looming nearby.

What You'll Find

The park's crown jewel isn't actually within the park itself - it's the unobstructed view of the cathedral's grand steps and that iconic dome that seems to touch the Minnesota sky. This open space was deliberately preserved to ensure nothing blocks the sightline to this historic landmark. The space offers an excellent vantage point for viewing the landmark.

Mostly, you'll come across open grassy areas that, honestly, have seen better days maintenance-wise. Still, you'll often spot locals enjoying the shade trees while diving into a book during lunch breaks - proof that even simple spaces can offer necessary urban respite.

Part of Something Bigger

While you won't find playground equipment or sports facilities here, the park's true value lies in how it complements the neighborhood. It provides a breathing space amid the gorgeous Victorian architecture that makes Cathedral Hill so distinctive. Think of it as the green pause button in an otherwise bustling urban environment.

Current State

Note that parts of the park still show scars from the Red Bull Crashed Ice competitions held about a decade ago. Some walkways have definitely seen better days, with concrete paths that could use some TLC. The park has that slightly worn-in feeling that comes with being a longstanding part of the community.
