About Midway Peace Park in Saint Paul
Midway Peace Park is a recently developed neighborhood park located in the Midway area of Saint Paul, Minnesota. Opened in 2021, this 3-acre park is part of the city's long-term vision to create vibrant outdoor gathering spaces along the Green Line light rail corridor.
The park was created through a collaborative effort involving the City of Saint Paul Parks and Recreation Department, Trust for Public Land, and various community partners including Union Park District Council, Gordon Parks High School, Hamline-Midway Coalition, Lexington-Hamline Community Council, and CommonBond Communities.
Midway Peace Park features a multi-level play experience designed to accommodate families with children of all ages. The upper level of the park contains a PlayBooster playground structure specifically designed for children aged 2 to 5 years old. As visitors move down the park's slope, they encounter hillside net climbers, a hillside slide, and over-under rings that engage people of all ages and abilities. At the lower level, there is a Netplex playstructure linked to another PlayBooster structure, providing continuous opportunities for fun, challenge, and activity.
The park's design incorporates several environmentally friendly features. It includes two rain gardens and a unique stormwater channel. These elements help manage and clean polluted water from the nearby parking lot before it's recirculated through the channel water feature and ultimately flows into the lower raingarden, contributing to the protection of the environment and the Mississippi River.
Accessibility and community engagement were key considerations in the park's development. The park is conveniently located near the Green Line light rail and is designed to be an important local amenity for the neighborhood, area schools, and residents of the adjacent Skyline Tower.
