About the Location

A Fresh Community Space

Located in the Highland Bridge neighborhood of Saint Paul, Minnesota, Assembly Union Park is a newer addition to the city's green spaces. At 1.55 acres, this park opened its gates in July 2023 as part of the transformation of the old Ford Motor Company plant site.

The name isn't just random - it's a thoughtful nod to the industrial roots of the area and recognizes how Ford workers shaped the surrounding communities over decades.

Play Areas That Kids Actually Love

The playground features more than just the standard swing-and-slide options. With its rubber/tire flooring, it's especially forgiving for wobbly toddlers just finding their feet. Parents with kids of different ages will appreciate how the space caters to various stages - including a separate tot area where the littlest adventurers can play safely.

The real highlights? The climbing webs where kids scramble like little spiders, an accessible merry-go-round that ensures everyone gets to join the fun, and a unique log swing that seems to be everyone's favorite. With plenty of slides and climbing options, it's a playground that tends to hold children's interest for extended periods.

Covering nearly a quarter of the entire park, this playground has become popular with many local families.

Sports for Everyone

If you're into pickleball, you'll find options here. Assembly Union Park hosts Saint Paul's first dedicated pickleball courts - three of them, to be exact - running on a first-come, first-served basis.

More of a basketball person? The full-court basketball court has enough space for smaller games to happen simultaneously when it's not being used for a full match.

Spots to Catch Your Breath

After all that activity, you'll need somewhere to relax. Picnic tables and benches are positioned with parents in mind - close enough to the play areas to keep an eye on the kids while enjoying a moment to sit down.

The grassy field offers perfect picnic territory, while the small rolling hills have become an unexpected hit with children who love running up and down them. Dog owners will appreciate the designated relief area, but it's worth noting this isn't an off-leash dog park.

Just a heads-up: since the trees are still in their early growing years, shade is currently limited. As for facilities, you'll discover a portable restroom but no permanent building yet.

Part of Something Bigger

Assembly Union Park is one of four new parks within the Highland Bridge development that's transforming this former industrial area.

The transformation from factory grounds to community green space has involved significant landscaping and water features. Its location puts it within walking distance of shops, other parks, and the Mississippi River, making it a natural gathering point in this evolving neighborhood.
