Dating back to 1927, Battlefield Park stands as one of Jackson's oldest and most expansive green spaces, sprawling across 54 acres of land. This park carries the weight of history in its soil - it was the actual battleground for Civil War conflicts on May 14 and July 9-17, 1863.

Two acres of the park remain deliberately preserved, offering a glimpse into the past with some of the most intact remnants of fortifications built around Jackson during the Civil War. The rest of the grounds have evolved over the decades to serve the community's recreational needs, striking a balance between honoring history and creating space for modern enjoyment.
