About the Location
A Cozy Green Retreat
Tucked away in Columbia, Missouri, Auburn Hills Park is a 12.2-acre touch of tranquility serving the Auburn Hills Subdivision just off East Brown School Road. This pocket-sized park combines recreational areas with natural beauty, offering a peaceful escape from the daily grind.
The park came to life as part of Columbia's vision for more accessible green spaces (outlined in their 1994 Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan). After being purchased in 2002 and developed with funds from the 2005 Park Sales Tax, Auburn Hills officially opened its gates in October 2009.
What You Can Do Here
While small in size, Auburn Hills doesn't skimp on options for outdoor enjoyment. A 0.3-mile gravel trail loops through the park - fantastic for a quick morning jog or an evening stroll to clear your mind.
If you're bringing the kids along, there's a playground where they can burn off some energy. It's well-maintained and clean, but it might not have the most extensive options for the tiniest tots.
Feeling sporty? The half basketball court is waiting for your next pickup game, while the open play field gives you plenty of space for frisbee, catch, or whatever game strikes your fancy.
Natural Charm & Amenities
One of the park's standout features is its serene pond (though you'll have to save your swimming for elsewhere). It's a lovely spot to sit and reflect or maybe watch for local wildlife going about their day.
When hunger strikes, head to the non-reservable shelter for a picnic break. It's a casual, first-come-first-served affair - perfectly suited to the park's laid-back vibe.
Good to Know
What Auburn Hills lacks in size, it makes up for in cleanliness and natural beauty. Its somewhat tucked-away location means you'll likely enjoy a peaceful visit without crowds, however be aware that parking is somewhat limited.
For nearby residents looking for a quick nature fix or a quiet place to unwind, Auburn Hills Park offers a well-maintained, beautiful setting that feels worlds away from the hustle and bustle.
