About the Location

A Wooded Haven in the City

Tucked away near the University of Missouri campus, Clyde Wilson Memorial Park is a 10-acre glimpse of wilderness that feels worlds away from the surrounding city bustle. This little urban oasis was previously known as Rockhill Park until 2010, when it was renamed to honor Clyde Wilson - a local hero who served as both City Council member and mayor, and helped create the East Campus Neighborhood Association.

Trails to Wander

What makes this park special is its dense, tree-covered landscape that provides a peaceful retreat for anyone needing a nature fix. The main attraction here is a 0.66-mile trail of packed dirt and gravel that winds through the woods, great for a contemplative stroll or a quick workout.

We love how the interconnecting path network lets you customize your adventure - no matter if you're in the mood for a quick 20-minute breather or want to lose yourself for over an hour among the trees. The trails are accessible year-round, making this a four-season destination.

Natural Playground

Unlike many city parks, you won't find swing sets or slides here. Instead, nature itself is the playground. The wooded setting creates a serene atmosphere where you can decompress and reconnect with the natural world. Kids can explore fallen logs, discover hidden paths, and engage with nature in its raw form.

Bring your four-legged friends along too - the park is dog-friendly as long as they stay on leash.

Simple Amenities

You'll find some picnic areas scattered throughout, but this park really shines as a hiking destination rather than a picnic spot. Note that there are no restrooms available, so plan accordingly before your visit.

Ongoing Improvements

Over the years, the park has seen thoughtful upgrades including bridge replacements, better accessibility features, and improved signage. These enhancements reflect Columbia's commitment to maintaining green spaces where residents can escape the concrete and asphalt of everyday life.

Clyde Wilson Memorial Park is a pocket of wilderness preserved within city limits for everyone to enjoy.
