About the Location

A Tiny Urban Oasis

Situated in St. Louis, Missouri sits Aboussie Park - a little lush escape established back in 1981. At just 0.4 acres, it holds the title of the smallest of all city parks in St. Louis. Small but mighty, right?

You can find this pocket-sized paradise near Sidney and 13th Street, just east of the chain link fence along the I-55 easement. Despite being tiny, it offers a peaceful green space in the midst of city hustle, and acts as a handy landmark if you're wandering through the area.

Surroundings and Atmosphere

The park nestles among charming St. Louis brick homes with their neatly kept front lawns and gardens - it's like a tiny breathing space carved out of the neighborhood fabric. This little space provides a moment of calm for locals and anyone passing through.

You might think being near the Interstate would mean constant noise, but the beautiful trees create a surprisingly effective natural sound barrier. If you're trying to locate it, look for the stretch of Interstate with the now-closed 'Hi-Way Bar' just south of the Sidney overpass.

Amenities and Features

Don't let the size fool you - this mini park packs in more than you'd expect. There's a cute gazebo meant for a bit of shade on sunny days, along with several benches where you can sit and watch the world go by.

Bringing your four-legged friend? The park includes a water spigot where dogs can drink or cool down. And somehow, the open space feels more generous than the park's dimensions would suggest.

Namesake and Monuments

The park honors Martie "Murph" Aboussie (1909-1970), who served as a politician in the 9th Ward. You'll spot two monuments here: a sign commemorating Murph himself and a statuette of St. Francis of Assisi dedicated to Martie J. (Jay) Aboussie, Jr., who sadly passed away at just 23 years old in 2006.

The St. Francis statue has evolved into something special - almost a local shrine where people leave little trinkets and charms. It's these personal touches that transform this tiny space into something meaningful for the community.

Unique Sensory Experience

One thing that makes Aboussie Park interesting is its distinctive blend of scents. As you stroll through, you might notice the fresh smell of coniferous trees and blooming perennials mixing with wafts of barley from the nearby ABI brewery - a sensory experience that's quintessentially this corner of St. Louis.

Situated in the Soulard neighborhood, this little park offers a peaceful moment of green in your day. Whether you're taking a quick breather, walking your dog, or even hunting for a geocache, this tiny urban oasis has a surprising amount to offer given its modest size.
