About the Location
A Community Gift
Back in 1994, retired grocer Leonard Stransky and his wife Angeleen did something pretty special - they donated land to create a small but beautiful green space for Lincoln residents to enjoy. Fast forward to 2003 when the park officially opened, and it's since blossomed into a cherished spot in the Irving neighborhood. Locals often describe Stransky Park as one of Lincoln's peaceful spots.
Park Features
The heart of the park has to be the stone waterfall and fountain - it's not some over-the-top artificial display, but rather a natural-style water feature that brings a peaceful atmosphere to the whole space. If you're feeling a bit adventurous, climb the few steps to the top of the waterfall for a lovely view overlooking the entire park.
Trees and thoughtful landscaping dot the grounds, offering welcome shade during Nebraska's warmer months while adding visual interest year-round. A decorative iron fence with brick columns frames the park, giving it a distinct and somewhat intimate feel despite being a public space.
Got little ones? The small playground area is meant for toddlers and preschoolers, with age-appropriate swings and slides all within a fenced area for peace of mind. It's not massive, but it's just right for younger children to burn off some energy.
The park's gazebo provides a nice shaded spot to sit and relax, and occasionally hosts small gatherings. Throughout the grounds, you'll find plenty of benches where you can take a moment to yourself, read a book, or simply enjoy the tranquility.
Events and Activities
If you're around Lincoln during summer, don't miss the free concert series held on Thursday evenings in June and July. These laid-back performances showcase local musicians, and sometimes food trucks make an appearance too. It's become a bit of a community tradition that brings neighbors together.
The open grassy areas make Stransky ideal for casual picnics or small get-togethers. And if you're into local events, the park offers a prime viewing spot during the Lincoln Marathon - a nice bonus for area residents.
Visitor Information
The park makes good use of its compact size with a thoughtful design. There's even a walking path across the street that connects back to the park if you're looking to extend your outdoor time.
Note that parking around the park is limited, and there aren't any public restrooms on site - something to keep in mind if you're planning an extended visit.
