About Turner Park in Omaha
Turner Park is a 7.5-acre public green space located in the heart of Midtown Crossing, Omaha, Nebraska. The park dates back to 1900 when Charles Turner, a Nebraska pioneer and real estate professional, donated the original six acres to the city. It was later expanded to its current size during the development of Midtown Crossing.
The park serves as a central gathering place for the community, hosting numerous events throughout the year. These include concerts, festivals, and wellness activities such as yoga classes and fitness workouts. One of the most popular events is Jazz on the Green, a summer concert series that draws crowds to enjoy live music in the open air.
In 2013, the Pavilion at Turner Park was constructed, providing a permanent stage and infrastructure for live music and performance arts on the park's east end. This addition has enhanced the park's ability to host a variety of cultural events.
Turner Park is known for being dog-friendly, making it a popular spot for local pet owners. The park also features several art installations, including a World War I memorial that was dedicated in 1937 after years of fundraising efforts by the American War Mothers.
The park's location within Midtown Crossing puts it in close proximity to various shops, restaurants, and residential areas, making it an integral part of the neighborhood's urban lifestyle. Its green spaces provide a refreshing contrast to the surrounding city environment, offering residents and visitors alike a place to relax, exercise, or enjoy outdoor activities.
