Upland Park

A Century of Community Connection

Positioned in South Omaha, Nebraska, Upland Park has been bringing neighbors together since 1913. This green space has been part of community life for over a hundred years, through generations of Omaha residents.

The park functions as a neighborhood gathering place, hosting community events throughout the year. If you're lucky, you might catch a concert or even a fireworks display that lights up the South Omaha sky.

Making a Splash with Modern Amenities

Back in 1999, Upland Park got a serious refresh when the aging swimming pool transformed into something much more exciting - a sprayground water feature. This change boosted park attendance by 412 percent, drawing in 7,500 more visitors annually.

More recently in 2023, the park's splash pad received a much-needed renovation, giving local families an improved spot to beat the Nebraska summer heat.

What You'll Find Here

The park offers a playground for the little ones, but it could use some TLC in certain areas. There are several picnic areas excellent for family lunches or catching up with friends over sandwiches.

If you're looking to get your steps in, the jogging paths provide a nice route, and there's plenty of open space for impromptu games or just stretching out on the grass. One thing to note: on those peak summer days, you might find yourself hunting for shade, as several visitors have mentioned more covered areas would be welcome.

Beyond a Park

Upland Park plays a particularly important role for the area's low-income families and immigrant youth. It's become something of a soccer haven, contributing to the Omaha South High School's soccer team success story.

Families frequent the grounds, giving children room to run and explore. You'll often spot dog owners taking their four-legged friends for leisurely walks around the perimeter.

Good to Know

The park's location near the former ASARCO site means there are some lead contamination concerns - an environmental issue that affects the area.

The cleanliness can be hit or miss, with occasional litter scattered about. Maintenance seems to vary throughout the seasons and different areas of the park - some sections appear well-tended while others might need more attention.
