About the Location
Park Overview
Tucked away in the community of Stead, just north of Reno, Nevada, North Valleys Regional Park spreads across 155 acres of high desert terrain. The park offers breathtaking panoramic views of open space and Peavine Mountain in the distance, creating a serene backdrop for your outdoor adventures. This expansive green space provides plenty of room to breathe and play for the North Valleys community.
Community Center and Splash Park
The North Valleys Community Center hosts various activities and events throughout the year, bringing locals together.
Right next to the community center, you'll discover the aviation-themed North Valleys Water Splash Park - a total hit during those scorching summer months. With more than 20 different water features and over 60 spray heads, it offers a refreshing way to cool down when temperatures climb. The splash park is popular with families looking for an affordable way to beat the Nevada heat.
Sports Facilities
Sports enthusiasts will feel right at home here. The park features three large soccer fields (both regulation and youth sizes) with well-maintained grass. You'll also find volleyball courts and youth baseball fields available for permitted use, making this a go-to spot for local leagues and casual games alike.
If you're into more adrenaline-pumping activities, check out the skateboard park with ramps and features that accommodate everyone from beginners to more experienced skaters.
Trails and Open Space
Need to stretch your legs? There are 3 miles of progressive stacked-loop mountain bike trails that wind through 160 acres of open space. If you're hiking, biking, or simply wanting to connect with nature, these multi-use trails provide a nice escape from daily routines.
Amenities for Families
Kids will make a beeline for the modern, safe children's playground areas that appeal to youngsters of all ages. For family gatherings or casual get-togethers, the park offers several reservable picnic pavilions equipped with BBQ grills - ideal for birthday celebrations, family reunions, or community events. And if you're just looking for a quick lunch spot, you'll come across plenty of picnic tables scattered within the grounds for impromptu meals.
Dog-Friendly Areas
Four-legged family members aren't forgotten here. The medium-sized off-leash dog park provides enough space for a good game of fetch, however it could use more shade and seating. Beyond the designated dog area, leashed pups are welcome in many other parts of the park, making this a popular destination for morning walks and evening strolls with your canine companions.
Restroom Facilities
You can find clean restrooms with flushing toilets conveniently placed throughout the park, typically just a short walk from wherever you might be enjoying your day. Note that some facilities may close during the winter months, so plan accordingly if you're visiting during the colder season.
Environmental Features
Beyond recreation, the park plays an important environmental role too. A 1.5 million gallon holding pond stores effluent water from the Reno-Stead water reclamation facility, which is then used to irrigate the park grounds - a thoughtful approach to water conservation in this high desert region.
