About the Location
Historic Significance
Established in the 1920s, the park has a rich history tied to the development of transcontinental highways in the United States. The historic California Building, constructed for the 1927 Transcontinental Highway Exposition, is located within the park.
This Mission Revival-style structure is now listed in the National Register of Historic Places and serves as a reminder of Reno's role in early transcontinental highway development.
Natural Features
The park features a picturesque landscape with duck ponds, a one-acre rose garden, and open green spaces. The rose garden, established in 1958, hosts over 200 varieties of roses and more than 1,750 individual plants.
It is the only rose garden in Nevada certified by the American Rose Society. The Truckee River, which runs alongside the park, provides a scenic backdrop and opportunities for activities such as fishing or simply enjoying nature.
