About the Location
Historical Background
Harriman Park was originally named East Side Park and was given to the city by Emma S. Richard on October 31, 1905.
The park was renamed on May 2, 1922, in honor of Lt. Lynn H. Harriman, who served in the 101st Infantry during World War I.
Lt. Harriman's Legacy
Lt. Harriman was mortally wounded in combat on May 1, 1918, and died on May 31, 1918. For his bravery, he was awarded the French Croix de Guerre and the American Distinguished Service Cross posthumously.
Interestingly, despite not being born or living in Manchester, the park was named after him to commemorate his heroic service.
