About the Location
Where Community Comes Together
Located in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Carteret Park is both a neighborhood green space and a playground extension for Abraham Lincoln school. It's a local spot where neighbors often gather and connect.
Not too long ago, the park got a complete makeover courtesy of Maser Consulting, and the transformation is pretty impressive. What used to be a standard park is now a space where people of all ages can enjoy themselves. The family-friendly vibe is palpable here - perfect whether you're looking to unwind on a bench with a good book or let the kids burn off some energy.
A Playground That's Out of This World
What we really like about this park is the spaceship-themed playground. It's different from the typical swing-and-slide setup, with a design that sparks imagination. Kids get to play astronaut while parents appreciate the soft cushioned ground beneath the equipment. No more worrying about scraped knees from falls on hard dirt! The equipment is kept in great shape too, which is always reassuring.
But Carteret Park isn't just for the little ones. There's a dedicated fitness zone where adults can get their exercise fix while keeping an eye on the kids. We love that they've included equipment specifically designed for seniors to help with motor skills - it's refreshing to see a park that truly caters to everyone from toddlers to grandparents.
And if you're into shooting hoops, the full-sized basketball court is meant for pickup games or just practicing your three-pointers.
Easy to Navigate, Room to Roam
One thing you'll appreciate about Carteret Park is the thoughtful layout. A multi-use path winds around and through the park, making it easy to explore every corner or get in your daily steps. At 9.0 acres, there's plenty of room to spread out without feeling crowded.
The picnic areas scattered throughout make it ideal for family get-togethers. Bring a blanket, pack some sandwiches, and make an afternoon of it on one of the grassy spaces.
The Practical Stuff
The park is generally clean and well-kept, which definitely adds to its charm. It's open daily from 9AM to 10PM, so there's plenty of time to enjoy it whether you're an early bird or prefer evening strolls.
Note that there aren't any public restrooms here - something to keep in mind if you're planning an extended visit. Fortunately, there are restaurants nearby if nature calls or hunger strikes.
Located in Elizabeth's 2nd Ward, the park has become an essential part of neighborhood life. Some locals have nicknamed it "the dog park," which tells you something about how many four-legged friends you might meet there. It's a pleasant green space where many locals come to relax and socialize.
