About the Location
Play & Recreation
Let's talk about fun stuff first: Kellogg Park has a playground with swings and various attractions where the little ones can burn off energy. It's a safe space for kids to do their thing, but we should mention the playground could use some TLC - parts of it are missing proper ground covering. When summer heat hits, the spray fountain becomes the neighborhood favorite, offering an excellent splash zone for cooling down.
Everyday Enjoyment
Bring your four-legged friends along! The park is totally pet-friendly, with many locals regularly walking their dogs (on leash, of course). The green spaces are fantastic for spreading out a blanket for an impromptu picnic or just lounging with a good book. If you're looking to keep active, the open areas provide plenty of room for a casual stroll or more vigorous exercise.
Getting Active
Many Elizabeth residents use the park for their daily runs and workouts. There's word of a soccer field, but it might not always be available for public use. You'll discover a few pieces of exercise equipment scattered throughout, but they've seen better days and could use some updating.
Neighborhood Hub
Sitting at the corner of Fanny Street and Madison Avenue, this park has become a genuine community gathering spot. It maintains a relatively peaceful atmosphere and stays reasonably clean, drawing a diverse crowd of all ages. A nice bonus: it's just a short walk from North Elizabeth train station, making it easily accessible if you're commuting or visiting.
Good to Know
Kellogg Park isn't huge, but it offers a welcome green retreat within Elizabeth's urban landscape. Just note there aren't permanent restrooms, but you might find portable toilets during the busy summer months. A few more benches wouldn't hurt - something to keep in mind if you're planning to stay awhile. While technically open 24 hours, locals generally suggest visiting during daylight hours.
One of the park's unique charms is its quintessentially urban soundtrack - the occasional train whistle and planes taking off from nearby Newark International Airport remind you that you're experiencing a piece of authentic city life.
