Established in 1966 by Newark's Municipal Council, Peter Francisco Park is a modest green space right beside Newark Penn Station, adjacent to the Ironbound neighborhood. It sits between the station and that vibrant district just beyond.

The park bears the name of Peter Francisco, a Revolutionary War hero born in Portugal who fought valiantly for American independence. If you're passing through, you can't miss the 12-foot obelisk standing tall since June 27, 1976 - a bicentennial tribute funded over a decade by the Portuguese American community, honoring their revolutionary countryman.
