Located in the heart of Albuquerque, Pat Hurley Park offers a refreshing escape from the urban hustle. The park cleverly splits into two sections: the Upper Loop and the Lower Loop, connected by a winding paved path that climbs up a hillside. If you're looking to get your heart pumping, take the unique stairs between the two sections - they've become something of a local fitness hotspot!

The Upper Loop trail stretches about 0.33 miles (roughly 697 steps if you're counting). With its 4-6 feet wide concrete path, it's accessible for pretty much everyone. Don't worry about difficulty - it's rated as Grade 1, meaning it's suitable for visitors of all fitness levels.

Amenities and Activities

The Upper Loop encircles spacious grass playfields and houses a kid-friendly playground area. Safety first: the playground features recycled rubber surfacing to cushion any tumbles, with different play sections thoughtfully designed for various age groups.

Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the tennis courts, pickleball courts, and a basketball court in the lower section. Around the park, especially in the upper area, you'll discover several picnic tables - excellent for a casual lunch - and some covered pavilions when you need a break from the New Mexico sun.

The well-maintained grass fields regularly host soccer practices and casual games, making this green space ideal for family outings or just hanging out with friends on a sunny afternoon.

What we really like about Pat Hurley are the views. From various vantage points, you can take in breathtaking panoramas of Albuquerque's skyline, with the winding Rio Grande below and the majestic Sandia Mountains creating a picture-perfect backdrop.

The views transform throughout the day, but they're particularly magical at sunset when the city begins to twinkle with lights. Many locals consider this one of the best lookout spots in Albuquerque. If you're a photography buff or just appreciate a good view, this is a great spot to take in special events like July 4th fireworks or the Balloon Fiesta.

Fitness Opportunities

Need to get your steps in? You're in the right place. Those stairs connecting the upper and lower sections have become a fitness favorite - some regulars note that five complete laps equals about two miles of solid cardio work.

If stairs aren't your thing, the gentler switchback paths along the hillside offer a more moderate option. You'll also find outdoor workout equipment strategically placed along some trails, adding some variety to your exercise routine.

Dog-Friendly Environment

Four-legged friends are welcome at Pat Hurley Park! The open grassy areas and network of walking paths give dogs plenty of space to stretch their legs and explore. Just remember to bring bags for cleanup - keeping the park beautiful is a community effort.

Park Management

As part of Albuquerque's city parks system, Pat Hurley provides a valuable green oasis in the urban landscape. It's a place where you can exercise, relax, or just enjoy being outdoors.

Note that there are currently no public restrooms available in the park itself, though nearby gas stations can fill the gap if needed. The adjacent community center is undergoing renovations and will eventually feature multipurpose rooms and a gymnasium - something to look forward to!
