About the Location

A Glimpse of Buffalo's History

Located in Buffalo's Allentown neighborhood, Days Park is a charming green haven with roots stretching back to 1859. This peaceful spot came to life when Thomas Day - an early Buffalo businessman who ran the city's first brick kiln - donated the land for public use.

The park got its design upgrade in 1887 when the legendary Frederick Law Olmsted stepped in at the request of Buffalo's Board of Park Commissioners. Olmsted's vision included a sweeping stretch of turf dotted with trees and, interestingly enough, a fountain centerpiece - something you wouldn't typically find in his other Buffalo park designs.

Community-Driven Revival

Fast forward to 1989-1990, when Days Park was transformed through the efforts of local residents organized as the Days Park Block Club. Their restoration efforts brought new life to the space, including a beautifully restored fountain encircled by a wrought iron fence that paid homage to its original design.

In an unfortunate turn of events, the fountain was stolen in 1995. But the community wasn't deterred - a replacement found its home in the park by 1999.

The Park Today

Walking through Days Park today, you'll come across it remarkably faithful to Olmsted's original blueprint. It provides a quiet retreat from the urban environment, where you can enjoy some nature without leaving the city.

As you explore, take note of the historic homes framing the park, including two beautiful Italianate-style houses built by Thomas Day for his sons - architectural locations that have stood the test of time.

More Than a Park

Days Park is both a green space and a piece of Buffalo's heritage. It remains an important part of the Allentown neighborhood, hosting community gatherings and providing green space for residents.
