About the Location
A Bit of History & Where to Find It
Located in Buffalo's East Side, JFK Recreation Center has been an important part of the Willert Park neighborhood since the 1960s. Named after President John F. Kennedy, the center was established during urban renewal efforts and has been a neighborhood gathering place ever since.
Spread across a generous 21.4 acres, this park gives locals plenty of room to breathe, play, and connect - something generations of Buffalonians have appreciated.
What You Can Do Here
The park offers nicely maintained paths and green spaces that are meant for your morning jog, afternoon stroll, or just stretching out with a good book. It's a relaxed space where neighbors often run into each other.
When summer heat hits Buffalo (yes, it does get hot here!), the outdoor swimming pool becomes the place to be. Sports enthusiasts gravitate toward the basketball courts and tennis courts, which accommodate players of all skill levels.
Programs & Event Possibilities
The Community Action Organization of Western New York runs the center with a focus on health and education initiatives that benefit local residents. Meanwhile, the City of Buffalo's Division of Parks and Recreation coordinates youth sports and other community programs that keep the center buzzing with activity.
Nearby schools like Bennett Park Montessori (PS #32) and Buffalo Elementary School of Technology (PS #6) also utilize the space, creating a natural extension of the educational environment.
Looking for an affordable venue? The center can be rented for everything from birthday celebrations to memorial services. The versatile stage area makes it particularly suitable for performances and community gatherings.
Recent Refreshes
The center isn't just sitting still. In recent years, the City of Buffalo and Buffalo Sewer have invested in making this space even better, including the addition of rain gardens in the parking area. These aren't just pretty - they help manage stormwater runoff while acting as living environmental lessons for visitors.
With ongoing renovations, JFK Recreation Center continues to evolve while maintaining its role as a vital resource for Buffalo residents of all ages.
