About Ahearn Park
A Tiny Glimpse of NYC History
Tucked away at the intersection of Grand Street and East Broadway sits Ahearn Park, a charming triangular patch that holds the distinction of being one of New York City's oldest and smallest parks. This little green haven in the Lower East Side of Manhattan might not demand much space on a map, but it's been part of the city's landscape since August 2, 1824, when the Common Council decided this corner of the city deserved to be preserved as public land.
Part of the Neighborhood Fabric
What Ahearn Park lacks in size, it makes up for in character. This modest green space offers a moment of respite amid the energetic urban rhythm of the Lower East Side. Though small, it's woven into the rich cultural tapestry that makes this neighborhood so distinctively New York.
A Fresh Look
This historic pocket park hasn't been forgotten by time. In 2016, plans emerged to install a new sculpture in Ahearn Park, showing that even after nearly two centuries, this tiny space continues to evolve. This art installation represents ongoing efforts to keep this historic corner relevant and engaging for the community it serves.
