About La Tourette Park
A Touch of History
Located in the heart of Staten Island, La Tourette Park forms a significant chunk of the Greenbelt - one of NYC's largest and most diverse park systems. This wasn't always a public retreat though; back in the 19th century, it was simply the family farm of David and Ann LaTourette.
You can still glimpse this rich history in the LaTourette family's 1870 mansion that now is the golf course clubhouse. And if these grounds could talk, they'd tell tales of the Revolutionary War, when British troops used the ridgetop to keep an eye out for approaching American forces.
Natural Beauty That Breathes
Wandering through La Tourette feels like discovering a secret garden in the middle of New York. Rolling hills, lush woodlands, and diverse ecosystems create a peaceful escape from city life. The panoramic views of Richmond Creek alone are worth the visit.
The park doesn't just look pretty - it's ecologically significant too. Through conservation efforts, endangered species like the Gray Tree frog and the Spring Peeper frog have found their way back to these grounds. The northeastern section known as Bucks Hollow is particularly important to the area's biodiversity, helping preserve Staten Island's natural heritage within the larger Greenbelt system.
Play Your Way
Fancy a round of golf? The 18-hole LaTourette Golf Course ranks among the best public courses in NYC and hosts the annual New York City Amateur Championship. The well-maintained fairways and greens draw players of all skill levels throughout the season.
If golf isn't your thing, no worries. Several hiking trails wind through diverse landscapes, suitable for both leisurely strolls and more challenging treks. The blue trail offers some of the most breathtaking panoramic views in the park - excellent for your daily exercise or a peaceful evening walk.
Come winter, the park transforms into a snowy playground. Bundle up and bring your sled for some downhill fun, or strap on cross-country skis to explore the transformed landscape.

The natural setting creates a peaceful retreat that feels miles away from urban life, despite being just a short trip from the city center. Walking through the forested areas, you might just forget you're in one of the world's busiest metropolitan areas.
The Little Things
Planning to spend the day? You can find picnic areas complete with charcoal grills - well-suited for family gatherings or a leisurely lunch with friends. And yes, you can bring your four-legged friend along, as the park is dog-friendly.
Basic amenities include portable toilets along the trails and picnic areas. If you're looking for something more substantial to eat, the golf course clubhouse offers a grill with a varied menu.
With recently renovated parking areas, accessing this natural space has never been easier. If you're seeking recreation, education, or simply a quiet moment with nature, La Tourette Park offers a refreshing green space within New York City's concrete landscape.
