Spectacular Waterfall Views
Lower Falls Overlook Park offers visitors a unique opportunity to view the Lower Falls, one of three major waterfalls on the Genesee River within the city limits of Rochester. The centerpiece of the park is the impressive 85-foot waterfall, which can be observed from various vantage points throughout the park.
A network of walking trails provides access to different viewing areas, allowing visitors to appreciate the waterfall from multiple angles. Visitors can access the gorge and approach close to the base of the falls, offering a unique perspective of the natural spectacle and the surrounding landscape.
Rich Historical Heritage
The park is built upon the foundations of the McCrackenville mill settlement, dating back to the 1820s, adding historical significance to the natural beauty of the area. Informational displays educate visitors about the history of the mills that once operated in this location.
The park's layout incorporates some of the old mill foundations, which can still be seen along the edge of the water and the western edge of the park along the cliff. These remnants provide a glimpse into Rochester's industrial past.
Recreational Opportunities
Lower Falls Overlook Park provides excellent opportunities for fishing, making it a popular spot for local anglers. The park is part of a series of interconnected parks along the Genesee River, contributing to the recreational and natural spaces available to Rochester residents and visitors.
