About the Location
A Green Escape in the Westside
Located in Syracuse's westside neighborhood, Skiddy Park offers 2.755 acres of urban greenery that acts as a breath of fresh air for local residents. You'll find this community space at 300 Tioga Street, nestled between Tully, Otisco, and Oswego Streets - a little pocket of recreation amid the city bustle.
Growing with the Community
Over the years, Skiddy Park has evolved alongside the neighborhood it serves. In 2005, the park got a major upgrade with the addition of a baseball diamond - a project made possible through the generosity of Major League Baseball's Baseball Tomorrow Fund, complemented by state and city contributions.
The park didn't stop there. In 2012, Skiddy received another round of improvements thanks to the Onondaga County Save the Rain program working together with the Near West Side Initiative. The Jim & Juli Boeheim and Carmelo K. Anthony Foundations also pitched in, helping transform this space into what you see today.
What You'll Find Here
The park features a basketball court and tennis court for sports enthusiasts. The younger crowd can enjoy the playground area, but it's worth noting that many locals hope to see more play equipment added in the future.
The park also features open grassy areas well-suited for tossing a frisbee, having a picnic, or simply lounging with a good book. Currently, there aren't designated picnic areas or public restrooms - amenities that residents have mentioned would make a welcome addition down the road.
More Than a Park
Skiddy Park really shines as a gathering place for the community. It has hosted vibrant multicultural festivals that celebrate the neighborhood's diverse Latino and African American heritage. These events bring together food, activities for kids, live music, and dancing - creating memories that last long after the festivities end.
These gatherings also foster positive connections between residents and local law enforcement. For families living in the surrounding area, Skiddy provides an outdoor space where neighborhood activities regularly take place.
