About the Location

Recreation Hub

Situated in North Syracuse, New York, Skyway Park is a well-used public space popular for local recreation. Conveniently located near Interstate 81, it's the kind of place where you'll discover families gathering any day of the week. The park proudly represents home base for the North Syracuse Little League, turning it into a lively center for kids' baseball and softball adventures.

Recent Renovations

Skyway Park has gotten quite the facelift in recent years, with a major transformation completed in 2021. The renovations took place in three phases spanning 12 years, updating virtually every corner of the park.

The upgrades included a fresh concession stand and restrooms, reimagined baseball and softball fields, the addition of trendy pickleball courts, an expanded playground area, and a newly paved parking lot that can now accommodate 100 vehicles.

Athletic Facilities

The park now features five well-maintained Little League fields, including one that's been converted specifically for girls' softball. These fields regularly buzz with the sounds of young athletes playing their hearts out.

Beyond baseball, you'll come across basketball courts, tennis courts, and pickleball courts spread around the grounds. The spacious layout makes Skyway Park suitable for many outdoor activities, from casual games to community gatherings.

Playground Area

Kids have two distinct playground zones to explore here. The larger playground caters to children 5 and older, featuring tall climbing structures, an assortment of slides, and challenging ladders that older kids particularly enjoy conquering.

For the little ones, there's a smaller play area (affectionately dubbed the "kitty park" by locals) that's more suited to younger children. The playground section includes a swing area and a fun spinning feature that's always a hit. Just note that some of the climbing structures reach impressive heights, so keeping an eye on younger adventurers is a good idea.

Picnic Facilities

When it's time for a break, the park's open pavilion offers plenty of picnic tables under its protective cover. It's an ideal spot to relax while still being able to keep tabs on activities happening around the park.

The main pavilion works great for family get-togethers and social events, however availability might be limited during Little League season when games are in full swing.

Community Effort

The park's transformation was the result of collaboration between the town of Cicero, local leaders, and the North Syracuse Little League.

Funding came from a patchwork of sources including State and Municipal Facilities Grants, town funds, and Onondaga County Community Development. Local businesses, volunteers, and contractors all contributed with time and resources to complete the renovation project.
