About the Location
A Natural Retreat
Positioned in the southeast corner of Green Level Church Road and McCrimmon Parkway in northwest Cary, North Carolina, McCrimmon Park spans a generous 20 acres of natural beauty. Opening in February 2024, the park features rolling landscape, mature trees, and meandering creeks that give it a distinctly natural character.
The park's design thoughtfully works with what nature already provided - including natural buffers and steep slopes - rather than against it. You'll find most facilities clustered on the flatter ridges, keeping their footprint small and preserving the natural environment that makes this place special.
Paths to Explore
The bridge spanning the central valley connects both sides of the park and stands out as a distinctive landmark. If you enjoy walking or jogging, the paved loop trails wind through the natural landscape, offering a peaceful way to get some exercise.
The park doesn't exist in isolation - it connects to the Morris Branch Greenway and Amberly, extending your recreation options. This connectivity means you can bike or walk to the park from nearby neighborhoods, making it an accessible green space for the community.
Sports and Play
Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the six lighted tennis courts and six pickleball courts, available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you're planning to play during the popular evening hours (5:30-8:30 PM), court reservations are available to secure your spot.
For younger visitors, the nature-themed playground includes natural elements and hammock swings that are popular with children. The playground area also includes artistic elements specifically designed with teens in mind - a thoughtful touch for an often-overlooked age group.
Comfort and Convenience
The park offers a reservable shelter for gatherings, plus several shade structures scattered throughout - well-suited for escaping the Carolina sun on warmer days. Clean restroom facilities are maintained for visitors during park hours.
Community-minded folks will appreciate the community gardens where local residents can grow their own plants. Near the restrooms, you'll find heavy-duty picnic tables and a charcoal grill, creating a natural gathering spot for family cookouts or casual meetups.
Getting There
Accessing the park is straightforward, with the main entrance and parking area off Cary Glen Boulevard, connecting directly to adjacent neighborhoods. With approximately 60 parking spaces, including on-street options, there's typically room for everyone.
From Vision to Reality
The park didn't just happen overnight. Public involvement shaped its development, with information meetings held in January and November 2018. A dedicated Citizens Resource Team provided valuable input on the proposed plans.
The Cary Town Council gave the master plan their stamp of approval on June 27, 2019. Construction began in May 2022 and wrapped up in February 2024, with a budget of $10,100,000 for design and construction, funded by Recreation Payment In Lieu-West Funds and Parks Bonds that Cary voters approved in October 2019.
