About the Location
Sports Facilities
At the heart of Thomas Brooks Park are four immaculately maintained, lighted softball/baseball fields that meet Major League Baseball standards. These fields are part of the USA Baseball National Training Complex, which has been in Cary since 2007 after the town was selected as USA Baseball's training headquarters in 2002.
Beyond baseball, there are two artificial turf soccer fields with lights for evening matches. The park also includes basketball courts, sand volleyball courts, and cricket practice nets - offering options for various sporting activities.
Stadium Features
Coleman Field, the park's premier softball/baseball stadium, offers more than just a playing surface. It boasts a professional press box with two suites, an official scorer's room, sound room, and press row. The stadium accommodates 1,754 spectators in its regular seating (including accessible options), with room for about 250 more on the grassy areas if you prefer a more casual viewing experience.
The baseball setup is pretty comprehensive, with batting cages conveniently located next to the fields. During games and tournaments, the concession stand offers refreshments - which are better than typical sports venue food.
Recreation Areas
If you're not interested in organized sports, the park offers picnic shelters with tables and grilling stations. These well-maintained areas are meant for everything from birthday celebrations to family reunions, and you can reserve them in advance.
For those who enjoy a leisurely stroll, a half-mile walking trail encircles the softball complex, offering a nice way to enjoy some fresh air and greenery. Spanning an impressive 224 acres between Beaver Dam Road and Green Hope School Road in western Cary, there's plenty of space to explore.
Playground and Family Amenities
Kids will love the modern playground with its age-appropriate zones and rubber surface that helps prevent those inevitable tumbles from turning into tears. While shade is somewhat limited in the play area (maybe pack some sunscreen), the convenience of nearby restrooms and picnic spots makes up for it.
Dog owners, you're welcome to bring your four-legged friends for walks around the spacious grounds, but note that there's no designated dog park area for off-leash play.
Visiting Information
The park welcomes visitors daily from sunrise to sunset, and the best part? It's completely free to use the grounds and facilities. There's plenty of parking available, but it can fill up quickly during tournaments or weekends when multiple sporting events are happening simultaneously.
Clean restrooms are centrally located among the four ball fields - though it would be nice to have additional facilities near the soccer fields, as the trek between the two areas can feel like a mini-hike.
Thomas Brooks Park features professional-quality sports venues, well-maintained grounds, and a variety of recreational options for locals and visitors alike.
