Park Overview

Nestled between Laura Duncan Road and Lake Pine Drive on the eastern edge of Apex, North Carolina, Apex Community Park spans an impressive 160 acres of urban greenspace. At its heart lies a 50+ acre lake that creates a peaceful backdrop for your outdoor activities. The park has several entrances with parking available, however fair warning - those lots tend to fill up fast when the weather's nice, especially on weekends and evenings.

Trails and Nature

Looking to stretch your legs? The park offers over 3 miles of developed nature and fitness trails - 2 miles of smooth paved greenway and an additional mile of natural walking path. These trails are your ticket to experiencing the park's natural beauty up close.

The 2-mile paved loop around the lake is a local favorite, and for good reason. This well-maintained path offers plenty of shade, with benches strategically placed for when you need a breather or just want to sit and take in those serene lake views. It's wide enough to accommodate strollers and wheelchairs, and your four-legged friends are welcome too (just keep them leashed!).

As you wander the trails, keep your eyes peeled for the park's residents - turtles sunning themselves, majestic herons wading in the shallows, and various ducks and geese. If you're lucky, you might even spot an eagle diving for fish. Recently added boardwalks have made navigating what were once muddy sections of the nature trails much more pleasant.

Recreational Facilities

For sports enthusiasts or those looking for some active fun, Apex Community Park offers a variety of options. The grounds include multiple athletic fields and courts to satisfy almost any sporting itch.

The park includes tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, baseball fields, and soccer fields scattered throughout the grounds. For the kids (or the young at heart), there are two distinct playgrounds - a traditional one with slides and swings, plus a ninja warrior-style obstacle course that challenges children of all ages.

Fishing and Water Activities

Angling enthusiasts can cast a line from the designated fishing dock. The park participates in the NC Wildlife Community Fishing Program, with the lake regularly stocked with channel catfish for your fishing pleasure.

Prefer to be on the water rather than beside it? The lake welcomes canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, sailboards, john boats, and rowing skulls - as long as they're under 14 feet in length and launched from the designated area.

Just note that both fishing and boating require permits, so plan accordingly.

Amenities

Practical comforts haven't been overlooked here. You can find clean restrooms at two locations on opposite sides of the lake, making it convenient for longer visits. When hunger strikes, head to one of the multiple picnic areas with tables throughout the park, including some covered spots for when you need a break from the sun.

Dog owners will appreciate the dog waste stations along the trails - just one more reason this leashed-pet-friendly park feels so welcoming. Open daily from 6:30AM to 10PM, you'll have plenty of time to enjoy everything this versatile park has to offer.
