About the Location
Park Overview
Located in Cary, North Carolina, Lions Park spreads across a generous 41.4 acres, making it one of the largest metro parks in the City of Raleigh. Since opening its gates in 1961, this green oasis has been welcoming visitors with its proximity to Saint Augustine's University and downtown Raleigh - you won't have to venture far to find this recreational site.
Landscape and Trails
Wander through Lions Park and you'll discover varied terrain that offers something for everyone. The northern section features a peninsula walking trail that meanders peacefully through the area - excellent for those morning strolls or afternoon wind-downs.
This part of the park doesn't stop at scenic walks, though. You'll also find athletic fields and play equipment scattered throughout, creating natural gathering spots for community activities and family outings.
Sports Facilities
If you're a baseball or softball enthusiast, you're in for a treat. Lions Park is popular for youth and athletic leagues throughout the season.
The park has two well-maintained baseball/softball fields: Mills Field and Franklin Field. These fields are in excellent condition, sometimes reminiscent of higher-level facilities.
Mills Field runs slightly smaller, making it ideal for younger players just finding their swing. Meanwhile, Franklin Field sits across the street in a more tranquil setting with additional parking options.
During summer months, the fields remain open and accessible, but they're typically locked during winter. Grab a seat in the bleachers and you might catch an exciting youth league game - the enthusiastic atmosphere is contagious.
Amenities
Several picnic areas are available where you can enjoy a packed lunch or casual get-together under the open sky.
You'll appreciate the clean restroom facilities available throughout your visit, however, keep in mind they might be locked during school hours.
A concession stand offers snacks and refreshments, which is convenient during game days or longer visits.
The park's layout and facilities accommodate everything from competitive sports to relaxing Sunday afternoons, making it suitable for people of all ages and interests.
