About the Location
Park Overview
Located in north Charlotte, Clarks Creek Community Park spans 31 acres. Since opening its gates in 2019, this public space has become a go-to spot for locals looking to enjoy the outdoors.
The park sits right across from Clarks Creek Nature Preserve, creating an ideal one-two punch of natural beauty in the area. You'll come across a mix of paved and natural walking trails weaving throughout the property, connecting to nearby neighborhoods so residents can easily stroll over without having to hop in the car.
Recreational Amenities
The playground here isn't your average swing-and-slide setup. It's thoughtfully built into the hillside with these cool in-ground metal slides that are integrated right into a bordering wall. Instead of climbing up stairs to reach the slides, kids can simply walk up the gentle slope on the back of the hill - a smart design touch that makes play more accessible. You'll also find teeter-totters, swings, and an impressive rope climbing structure for the more adventurous little ones.
When summer heat hits, the splash pad becomes the park's main attraction. Running daily from 10 am to 8 pm between Memorial Day and Labor Day, it features multiple water spouts with plenty of room for kids to dash around and cool off.
Sports fans will find eight pickleball courts that are typically busy, plus a full basketball court for pickup games. There's also a spacious open field great for tossing a frisbee, kicking a soccer ball, or just sprawling out on a blanket with a good book.
Specialty Features
Bring your four-legged friends along - the park includes separate fenced areas for large and small dogs, each equipped with water fountains designed specifically for pets (though these might be turned off during winter months).
Green thumbs will appreciate the community garden where locals tend to their plots, growing vegetables while surrounded by a variety of herbs and flowers.
Planning a get-together? The medium-sized covered shelter with picnic tables can be reserved for birthday parties or family reunions. There's even a charcoal grill nearby for cooking up some outdoor eats. This shelter provides some welcome shade, which is worth noting as much of the park is relatively exposed to the sun.
Facilities and Accessibility
When nature calls, head to the clean restroom facilities housed in a charming red barn-like building next to the splash pad. The facilities include multiple stalls and sinks, with separate areas for men and women.
You'll discover water fountains around the park and a decent-sized parking lot, but spaces can fill up quickly during busy times - especially weekend afternoons and summer days when the splash pad is running at full tilt.
The park welcomes visitors daily from 7AM to 7PM, giving you plenty of time to enjoy all it has to offer during the year. The park offers a good mix of active and passive recreation options for the local community.
