A Park with History

Tucked away between Wilkinson Boulevard and Tuckaseegee Road, just a mile west of Uptown Charlotte, sits Camp Greene Park - a 27.5-acre green space with roots deeper than its shade trees.

The park takes its name from Camp Greene, a World War I Army training facility that once occupied this land. While you won't find many original structures remaining, what's replaced them is a community space that honors its past while providing modern amenities.

Hoops Heaven

If basketball is your game, you'll find plenty of options here. Camp Greene has 12 tournament-grade basketball courts, including one covered full-court that allows for play regardless of weather.

Thanks to renovations by the Charlotte Hornets, these aren't your average neighborhood courts - they're top-notch playing surfaces that attract players from across the city. Younger ballers will appreciate the shorter basketball goals on some courts, excellent for developing those shooting skills before graduating to the full-height hoops.

Stay Active, Stay Happy

Not into basketball? There are other options for staying active. Walking and biking trails meander through the grounds, offering a peaceful route for your morning jog or afternoon stroll.

There's also an outdoor workout station with equipment for those looking to mix up their fitness routine with some fresh air. A small pond adds a touch of tranquility to your visit - a nice spot to catch your breath after a workout or simply enjoy a moment of calm.

Family Fun Zone

Kids have their own space to shine at Camp Greene, with a playground area conveniently located next to the basketball courts. This smart layout means you can keep an eye on children of different ages as they explore their own adventures.

The open green spaces invite impromptu games of frisbee, casual picnics, or just cloud-watching on a lazy afternoon. While there aren't dedicated picnic shelters, the grassy areas make an ideal spot to spread out a blanket and enjoy an outdoor meal.

Good to Know

Restrooms are available, however they might be closed when there aren't special events happening. Four-legged friends are welcome within the park as long as they're leashed, however there isn't a dedicated dog park section.

One of the park's best features might be its laid-back vibe - it typically doesn't get overcrowded, making it something of a serene location in Charlotte's park system.

Community Space
